In July 2016, Microsoft announced Dynamics 365 as a common brand for their CRM and ERP cloud solutions. The new brand would have new purpose-built apps to help manage specific business functions, including: Financials, Field Service, Sales, Operations, Marketing, Project Service Automation and Customer Service.
At the same time they announced AppSource, where customers could download apps for their Dynamics 365 solutions.
The products would be split into two editions:
Dynamics 365 Business Edition: For the small and midsize companies, with NAV being the foundation of their ERP application called "for Financials".
Dynamics 365 Enterprise Edition: For the larger companies with AX as the ERP application called "for Operations".
The split in two editions lasted until spring 2018, where Microsoft released Dynamics 365 Business Central. With no need for a Business Edition, also no need for an Enterprise Edition.
