  • Hi Expn,

If you're "only" on NAV 2009 (no SP) and wanna go to NAV 2017, then it's quite a ride. Especially if you're only using the classic forms and reports. The short answer is that there is no tool that brings you all the way. You're crossing quite a lot of generations of NAV, so you need to do it in several steps.

    1. First you need to upgrade to NAV 2009 SP1 or R2. Upgrading in this case means just converting the database. There is no upgrade toolkit from 2009 to 2009 SP1/R2.
    2. Then from NAV 2009 R2 to either NAV 2013/2015. I prefer to NAV 2015. Here you follow the steps in the guide from Microsoft (in below link). Notice that you also need to install NAV 2013 along the way. You don't need to upgrade all your customization's to the versions in between. Just bring the table fields along.
    3. When you're at NAV 2015, then you're at the "new way" of upgrading where using PowerShell really starts speeding up things. Upgrade from NAV 2015 to NAV 2017.

I did a similar upgrade last year from NAV 2009 to NAV 2016. You can go directly from NAV 2015 to 2017 instead.
