  • Directions EMEA 2011

    waldo
    waldo
Time again to promote one of the best Dynamics NAV events: Directions EMEA 2011 . After last year , I'm double in the mood to go to Directions. It's in a city I always wanted to go to: Berlin (going to visit it prior to the event :-)), and last year, the quality of the event was so good that (sorry to say) my expectations are very high :-): Session content Speakers Organisation Food Girls (oops .. did I say that out loud?) They always beat previous years .. but beating 2010 is going to be difficult. And if you don't believe me .. Just watch the endmovie here . This year, the…

  • NAV 2009 R2 .Net Interop: Using Enumerations (Part 1)

    waldo
    waldo
At the moment, i'm writing an article on how to use .Net Interop to connect to other database. When doing this, I noticed that it wasn't that easy to use enumerations, which are in fact quite common in .Net. That's why i'm first going to elaborate on enumerations .. and then I will blog about the database connections.. :-). What are enumerations? The idea is that instead of using an int to represent a set of values, a type with a restricted set of values is used instead. In other words: you use words instead of numbers :-). Simple programming .. I like that . For example "colors". Suppose…

  • Dynamics NAV goes Azure

As I already mentioned yesterday .. Microsoft was going to announce something big at Convergence . As I'm not in the States myself, I don't know the details of it, but it seems that it's quite good explained in this news article: Microsoft Unveils Plans To Adapt Its ERP Applications For Cloud Computing . Because of the fact that AX, GP, NAV and SL are al quite different technologies .. it seems that they have to work out the specific details .. , but Kirill (Tatarinov) said: " For now we thought that it was appropriate for use to articulate the vision and the roadmap, the directional statement…

  • Convergence 2011 Atlanta

    waldo
    waldo
The past few years, I have been attending a great deal of Microsoft Dynamics NAV Conventions throughout the world .. and I have been writing about them .. a lot, like you can see here . Yesterday, Convergence 2011 US started .. . Due to circumstances, I will not join Convergence this year.. and I say this with pain in the heart. Convergence US is a GREAT convention .. . You see nothing but enthusiastic people that are trying to get the most out of their investment .. partners that are trying to learn on how to do more, or how to solve their specific problems .. . You see GP people getting smart…

  • NAV 2009 R2 .Net Interop: using arrays / collections (2)

    waldo
    waldo
Remember my post about " .Net Interop: using Arrays and Collections " (not too long ago)? Well, almost immediately i got a comment from Freddy (Kristiansen) explaining that the Dictionary that I used, is actually quite an expensive one.. . It actually uses two collections (one for the key to find the Index, second for the value with that index), which causes for overhead in case you don't actually need it for your software. When using arrays for lots of data, you might want to consider to use Lists or ArrayLists instead.. . In both cases, the code looks alike .. . Something like this for Lists…

  • MVP Renewal

    waldo
    waldo
"I'm an April".. . That's what MVP's say in Belgium about when they were awarded (if they were awarded in April, in fact). You see, it always happens either on the 1st of January, April, July or October. MVP's are only MVP's for one year ..so each year, you have to be "renewed" if you still want to call yourself "MVP" .. . Will you be renewed? That's still something that's not in our hands .. it has probably something to do with the "effort" we put into the online and offline community .. But still, it's something mysterious .. what is "enough effort"? Well .. I'm not able to answer that question…
