Error in Version List #2

Little over a year ago I reported some errors in Version List in NAV 2009 SP1: a number of standard objects that my tool indicated as changed, but actually weren't. Today I want to draw attention on Page objects that seem w1 only, but actually are localized.

Check for yourself the following:

  1. Take from a Spanish (ES) NAV 2009 (RTM/SP1/R2) Page 9310 and compare it to the same page from a w1 database
    • both have Version List equal to NAVW16.00.01, telling me that it's a standard NAV and not localized page
    • but the comparison will show differences
  2. Take from a Swiss (CH) NAV 2009 (RTM/SP1/R2) Page 116 and compare it to the same page from a w1 database
    • both have Version List showing NAVW1xxxx only, telling me that it's a standard NAV and not localized page
    • but this comparison will also show differences
    • BTW: note that the w1 version in the Version List are different!
  3. From a British (GB) NAV 2009 (RTM/SP1/R2) Page 116 ...
  4. From a Dutch (NL) NAV 2009 (RTM/SP1/R2) Page 54 ...

Well, just verify all of these:

Note that this is only listing the pages for the countries I had a look at.

Standard or Localized

So what does make these localized? For  those how have been transforming forms to pages and have been adding new UX (i.e. RTC) elements like promoted commands, fact-boxes, etc. the differences as pointed to above probably do not appear unfamiliar.

All these differences are new UX elements created in the TIF tool and added to the pages during the transformation process.

All these pages are based on forms that were not localized and only due to the localization of the TIF information these pages are localized. The value of the version list of these pages is directly copied form the associated form, which does only contain the w1 part and no local part. Tongue Tied

In the long run to the NAV 2009 release we had various discussion between our GDL team and the build team that any localization of the TIF data should be reflected in the version list of the page. To no avail.

Conclusion

So now we are stuck with pages of which you cannot tell from outside (looking at the Version List) whether they have been localized or not.
