Silvester's day is still long and no way to go and read a book in bed. But I will close down my laptop anyway before we prepare for Oudejaaravond , get together with our neighbours and 'hell' brakes lose at midnight ... and all becomes quite on New Years Day . Feliz Navidad, Gelukkig Nieuwjaar, Happy New Year, Bonne Année, Godt Nytår, Glückliches neues Jahr, ... to all of you!

  • SQL Data Type

With the introduction of the Microsoft SQL Server option for NAV the specific way of sorting Code fields (the Navision way) was no longer possible when running NAV on SQL Server. The Dynamics Book wiki gives a good description on the differences not in the least because of the filtering examples. As Code fields are text fields the basic sorting mode on SQL Server is a text sorting. However to provide some sort of numerical sorting for Code fields the SQL Data Type property was introduced having…

  • G/L Account as Text instead of Code & NAV 7

As I did take my youngest son out sleigh riding (in fact: the whole family), got outside and was marveled about the beauty in (almost) black and white, sat at the fire and pick-up my stamp collection, stayed in bed and read that one book, and played Ticket-to-Ride with my family, there's one thing left to do before the turn of the year: write at least one of these posts that have been hanging in-the-air for sometime. And I must confess this provided me a very good alibi to get out of bed first…

  • To all of my readers: a Merry Xmas

I guess it will be as white as not many of us around here in NL can remember. Enough snow to take my youngest son out sleigh riding. Enough snow to silence down humdrum noise. Enough snow to go outside and be marveled about the beauty in (almost) black and white. Or to sit inside at the fire and pick-up the stamp collection I started to pick up again - after 30 years! Or maybe write some more posts that have been hanging in-the-air for sometime. Or should I just stay in bed and read that one…

  • Error in Version List #2 on MS Connect

The version list issue I reported you on yesterday kept on lingering in my mind today thinking this should be fixed by MS and can easily be fixed! I wrote that ... ... we had various discussion between our GDL team and the build team that any localization of the TIF data should be reflected in the version list of the page. To no avail. The main reason that it was to no avail had to do with the fact that ... ... the value of the version list of these pages is directly copied form the…

  • Error in Version List #2

Little over a year ago I reported some errors in Version List in NAV 2009 SP1 : a number of standard objects that my tool indicated as changed, but actually weren't . Today I want to draw attention on Page objects that seem w1 only, but actually are localized. Check for yourself the following: Take from a Spanish ( ES ) NAV 2009 (RTM/SP1/R2) Page 9310 and compare it to the same page from a w1 database both have Version List equal to NAVW16.00.01, telling me that it's a standard…

  • Save the Date: February 3, 2011

The other day I did mention that the second DDC event is knocking on our door and wrote between the lines that you might mark January 25, 2011 in your agenda with 2nd DDC event . Well unmark it as we needed to move it to a couple of days later: February 3, 20111 . As with the first event you are welcome at 18:00h in the Veluwehal (room 7) in Barneveld . The first session will start around 18:45h and contrary to the first evening we will have two consecutive sessions. More details will follow…

  • MS Changelog and Code Markers

In standard NAV by default the documentation trigger of every object was virginal empty and provided room to partners to document their changes. Until the emergence of the CaptionClass feature in 3.xx (Navision Solutions/Attain) when the documentation trigger of codeunit 1 (ApplicationManagement) got stuffed with an expose of the data definitions and logic behind it. And then in the course of what later was released as NAV 5.0 extra data appeared in the same documentation trigger. Ever had a…

  • Missed Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 Developer Day 2010? #3

A colleague just asked me about the availability of Christian Abeln's NAV 2009 R2 presentation on Business Data Visualizations in NAV . So I referred him to my blog post Missed Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 Developer Day 2010? #2 where I pointed to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 Partner Readiness Materials page. But why not have a look myself as I had neglected to do that last week? Have a look: all material is available now!
