Introducing the new look for Power BI Service
Steven Renders
Today we’re excited to announce a public preview of the ‘new look’ for Power BI service. We’re refreshing the user interface to provide a modern experience that’s simpler and builds on customers’ familiarity with Microsoft products. This initial release has updates to the report viewing experience, with more updates planned over the next few months. Here’s a peek into a sample report with the new look – Sample report with the new look Note: We will start rolling out the new look this week. It will be enabled for all users by July 31, 2019 . More details in the Opt in, phased roll out…

Announcing the New Filter Experience for Power BI Reports
Steven Renders
The wait is over! This month we are incredibly excited to announce that the new filter experience is now generally available! We have updated the look and feel and added a ton of new functionality. Let’s walk through what’s included in the new filter experience! Pop-up Filter List With the new filter experience, report consumers can hover over the filter icon in the visual header to see a read-only list of all the filters or slicers affecting that visual. This makes it super easy for end users to understand what filters are applied to a visual. Here are the types of filters this…

How do I: Create a timeline in a report dataset in AL?
Steven Renders
A question I got recently was, how can I visualize or create a dataset that can show/fetch information on a timeline? For example, I have a time-sheet and want to visualize the hours employees worked at certain projects, per day, week, month, year, and so on. In this example I will create an order intake report. For the simple reason that for this report you can use the standard demo data in Business Central, and for time-sheets you first need to go threw a setup and then create the demo data. The order intake can be defined in different ways, the definition that I will use is: the amount…

Power BI Desktop July 2019 Feature Summary
Steven Renders
With this month comes the first feature release from our announcements at Microsoft Business Application Summit, Icon sets, which also addresses our current #1 idea on ideas.powerbi.com. On top of this major update, we have incremental improvements for many of our existing features, such as a counts experience for the Key influencers visual and RLS support for aggregations. To round this out, we are also making several key features, the new filter pane and aggregations, generally available. The observant will notice that, if you’re not using the Microsoft Store version, the link downloads…

How Do I: Hide the Headlines on my Rolecenter?
Steven Renders
Recently someone asked me how to hide the headlines part on a rolecenter page, and what code is required to do that? Personally I would not do that because I find them quite interesting, but if you really want to remove them, here you go. First, open your sandbox environment. If you don’t know how to create a sandbox, then have a look here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/devenv-sandbox-overview In your sandbox, open the DESIGN menu: Then click MORE : Then select the REMOVE option, when you hover over the headlines and click the…

Power BI apps for Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV
Steven Renders
Please have a look at this article from Brian Meier : https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/it/2019/07/17/power-bi-apps-for-dynamics-365-business-central-and-dynamics-nav/ Starting September 1, 2019, content packs are no longer supported on Power BI online. Because of that, updates are no longer supported, and these content packs have been removed from powerbi.com and replaced with Power BI apps . The Power BI apps are now available in Microsoft AppSource and function in the same manner as the content packs. The only difference is that you must have a Power BI Pro license…
