How Do I: Add and Link a Power BI Report to a page in Business Central?
Steven Renders
Let’s get started. In Power BI Desktop, select Get Data , More : Authenticate using your Office 365 credentials (email & password), end then select a query: In this case, I’m filtering the navigator on queries that contain the word item in their name, and then I select Edit to verify the query in the query editor: Then I select the columns I’m interested in: I then click Close & Apply to load the data. Now comes the fun part, designing the report, by selecting some visuals and displaying the data: Now comes the tricky part. You need to add a report filter containing the…

Which object ranges can we use with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?
Steven Renders
A very interesting blog post from Kurt Juvyns about object ranges: I wanted to provide some clarity on how you want to think about object ranges in Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Which object ranges are used for what, which one have potentially costs associated, how do you apply for them and what changed with the launch of Business Central. Let me know in the comments if you have questions on this topic. https://community.dynamics.com/business/b/businesscentraldevitpro/archive/2018/10/17/which-object-ranges-can-we-use-with-microsoft-dynamics-365-business-central…

Power BI Desktop October 2018 Feature Summary
Steven Renders
This month’s update for Power BI Desktop filled with both small and large improvements across the entire product. One huge update is support in the Power BI service for both our composite model and aggregation previews. This really enables you to start using these preview features end-to-end for your normal reports. We also have two significant data prep features this month as well: fuzzy matching capabilities when merging queries and data profiling to help identify quality issues. https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-october-2018-feature-summary Here’s the complete list…

How Do I: Set the runtime version of the extension package?
Steven Renders
Recently, on some of my ‘machines’ I get the following errors, when trying to publish an extension (F5): The runtime version of the extension package is currently set to '2.0'. The runtime version must be set to '1.0' or earlier in the app.json file in order to install the extension package on this platform. Apparently, this is a new feature because the AL language extension is compatible with multiple platform versions. You can install the AL Language extension from the Visual Studio Code marketplace and use it to develop solutions for Dynamics 365 Business Central. To set the platform…
