Is it just me or is this the best kept secret in Dynamics NAV 2015?
Today my customer Thomas Ditlev from ACO Nordic asked me to bring a backup of the data in a database to a colleague, nothing new about that.
I totally lost my cool, when he started the backup functionality inside Dynamics NAV, exported the data and saved it on my USB drive.
When he realized that I had no idea that something like that was possible, he danced a little Indian dance exclaiming: “Ha’ I found out first”
So Here it is for all of you who, like me, totally missed the fact, that the old backup/restore functionality has returned to Dynamics NAV:
It looks almost exactly like the old “Classic” functionality.
It makes a file with the extention .navidata:
Importing the file in another database:
But what is this?
Was that a C/AL functionality?
Looking into page 9900 and 9901 it seems that there are two new system functions:
Just imagine, what we can do with a codeunit and the Job Queue.

Just a warning! Microsoft recommends not using this for actual backups. It was primary made as a tool for consultants to create a test environment.
