I started working with Navision in 1990 and since then I've done almost everything in this industry.
In 1995 I started the Dynamics User Group, formerly Navision Online User Group and Microsoft Business Solutions User Group. Here on my blog I write mostly about the Dynamics Community, my experiences with Microsoft and especially the Dynamics NAV and Navision projects I'm working on, but also how it is to work as a self-employed Navision freelancer, Navision contractor or whatever you call it.
For a almost lot of years by now, I have been using a small tool called Plaxo (www.plaxo.com). And I can only recommend everybody else to use this also. I use it to keep my contact list up to date at all times. Especially in this industry, where so many people are changing from one job to another, then it's hard to keep once contacts up to date. And doing it manually simply takes too much time. Using Plaxo I'm automatically get all the updates from all my contacts directly into my contact list in Microsoft Outlook, and those who are not using Plaxo, I can simply skip of a "Update Request" asking the contacts to update whatever might have changed in their profile. Great - it saves me so much time.
In another situation it's even more important to have a Plaxo profile. That's when you are going to change from one job to another. As long as you have your Plaxo integrated to Outlook, then you will always have an updated copy of your contacts online. And as soon as you get your new email and Outlook profile in your new company, then you just contacts again to Plaxo and you'll automatically get all your old contacts into your new contact list. But also all your contacts will recevie an update from you telling them your updated information.
The latest addition from Plaxo is something they call Pulse. I'm not quite sure what I should think about this. It looks almost like "Just Another Social Network" - but it has something I do like. You can categorize your contacts here between "Business Network" (coworkers, old-class mates, people you've meet etc.), "Friends" (only your reallife friends - not not social network) and "Family". If I look at my contact list at Linkedin.com, then I have almost 2000 contacts here, but I would say that many of these are not people I really know so well that I can introduce them to other people. So when I'm accept Pulse connections I will only accept someone who I really know. So all received requests for connections here will be rejected, unless they come with link here to the site including a good reason to why we should connect.
REDMOND, Wash. — Aug. 21, 2007 — Microsoft Corp. today announced key milestones achieved within the business intelligence (BI) marketplace, including IDC’s recognizing Microsoft as one of the fastest-growing BI vendors in 2006. In IDC’s report, “Worldwide Business Intelligence Tools 2006 Vendor Shares,”* analysts found that Microsoft had a growth rate of 28 percent, the highest among the top 10 industry vendors. In addition, Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 was acknowledged by The OLAP Report as the No. 1 online analytical processing (OLAP) server on the market.
I have mentioned PerformancePoint in this blog before, but now its going to hit the market. A lot of people talkes about PerformancePoint as it is the best thing since happening in the BI market for a very long time. And I look really forward to see when presented by Microsoft here in Denmark next months.
It's not very long time since Kirill Tatarinov was appointed the corporate vice president of Microsoft Business Solutions (MBS), and hereby have the overall responsibility for the Dynamics business within Microsoft.
Kirill have now appointed Mogens Elsberg as the new global product manager for the whole Dynamics line.
Many of you will know Mogens already. Mogens who like me is Danish, and he was the CEO of global Dynamics VAR Aston Business Solutions up until they in 2004 was sold to American Tectura. Since 2005 he has been with Microsoft in Vedbæk in Denmark. Until now his responsibility has been focused on the Dynamics NAV products.
One of the things we have be hearing a lot about recently has been Mogens' project regarding creating a platform for expanding the succesfull Microsoft Dynamics C5 (which organizatoral is part of the NAV group - but actually has it's root in the same platform as Axapta/AX - namely XAL). C5 is currently the most succesfull ERP package in the small-business market in both Denmark and Iceland, with a market share far over 50%. But it's only available in Denmark and Iceland. But Mogens think that he can change that. With good reason I think, but it will not be easy!
I look forward to hear what he will do now that he will cover all the Dynamics products.
Today was my first day back at work. I just had three weeks summer vacation.
The first 5 days was spend on move this site to a new server and upgrading to Communit Server 2007.
And then 5 days on Lolland (Denmark) to a so-called Ngoendro Course (if any of you know what that is!). Five days in a tent, that showed up to be way to small although it was made for 4 persons and we only were two! But my wife had basically decided to bring most of her garderobe!! So I had to run out and buy a much bigger tent with more storage place! But it was five nice days, only rain the last night! And we used the opportunity to get married once again, but this time by our Lama (who is allowed to marry people here in Denmark).
After Lolland we had my children for two weeks. Most of the time we spend home in my house, but we also had a 6 days visit with my Mom in Middelfart. Here we paid Legoland a visit, which is only about 70 km from her house. But although Legoland is wonderful, then I really cannot recommend a visit here in July. There are simply too many people. My big girls was waiting in line for 90 minutes to try one ride, which took only 2 minutes!!
But now I'm back again. And then of cause the summer weather has started! Most of July we had rain, rain and rain! And now it's sun and very nice!
My tasks for this week is to get back on target with all the unread emails, update my calender with travelplans for the next months and see be updated on all what the members on dynamicsuser.net have been up to while I have been away. Love to hear what you have done in your vacation, if you had any....
