Item consumption to cost center

Dear all,

I am coming from SAP and there are some things I am wondering how to be done in AX (2009).

Say I have an item A123 on inventory (on-hand), can I post/consume it somehow to cost center? (like in SAP you would post with movement type 201, if anyone familiar with it).

Similarly, is there a possibility to make a purchase order with an inventory item but consume it directly, without inventory postings?

The scenario is that we are purchasing and buying some machines. Occasionally, we take some of those machines to our own use. They are relatively low-valued, so fixed asset should not be involved.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can. You can post with fiancial dimensions (Departments, cost centers, purpose and other customized dimenisons) and also view same by dimensions in your financial statements.

This depends on the setup of the item in the first place. You can set up postings on the items to be expensed through the P& L accounts if the items will exist phisically in your warehouse. If not, use the vendor invoice journal in accpunt payable module to Debit Expense account and credit vendor account directly.
  • It sounds to me that you are going to take something out of inventory for internal use. The movement journal allows you to post a negative quantity and offset it to a ledger account, typically an expense. This will take it out of inventory. You can select the financial dimensions such as department right in the journal provided they meet the posting rules for the account.

    Don,

That is exactly what we need. Thank you.
