Is it possible to develop or customize SSRS report in 2012 without Visual Studio installed? (If so, we'd like to use Report Bulider instead.)
Support for the Report Builder is officially discontinued in AX2012. However, if you try, you will notice that you can still open most of the AX2012 deployed reports in the Report Builder. Keep in mind that with a Report Builder you can only open and edit a deployed artefact (rdlc file) of the report and the AOT object stays intact. So if you redeploy report from AX, your changes in rdlc will be gone.
On a not that serious note - well, you can always export the report to XPO file and adjust something in the XPO file's report section (it has an XML structure) and reimport the XPO back and then redeploy the report... think of this as more of a joke, although it is technically doable :)
Officially there is no support for any other SSRS development environment in AX2012 apart from Visual Studio.
here I have landed for what I am exactly looking for. Thanks Janis. So, VS is the only option. Is there any blog or tutorial on how to edit simple changes - for e.g. changing the test that say INVOICE to SALES INVOICE and hiding fields like "Tax Registration Number" and Giro etc.,
this will be a big help. thanks
Also, is it Business intelligence Development Studio (VS 2008) or can we be able to edit using VS 2010 pro
We are using a third-party product Docentric AX that allows designing reports in MS Word without using Visual Studio. But you have
to install Docentric AX Add-In for MS Word. Afterwards you can (without coding)
replace a SSRS report design with a new one. You will
quickly get an idea if you take a look at the gallery.
You can also see here capabilities of a designer.
