DOS prompt and function keys

This ran in older versions of windows but not in XP.  I would run a bat file to change the

function of the function keys and place the word ACTIVE along with the drive and current directory

at the top of the screen and replacing the prompt with a "*" instead of the current directory.

Here is what I would run with just F1 doing a cls and the prompt change:

ECHO ON
PROMPT $e[0;59;"CLS";13p
PROMPT $e[s$e[1;33;1m$e[f$e[K$ ACTIVE $p $e[1;32;40m$e[u$:*
CLS

Can anyone tell me what I need to do in XP to get this done?

Thanks
