On the server I use to run this website I have SQL Server 2005 Work Group Edition installed.
But I cannot find SQL Profiler anywhere. Is it not possible to use SQL Profiler with SQL Work Group Edition?
Have a great day, Erik
SQL 2005 WE does not have all client tools - as SQL Profiler - available; see http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/compare-features.aspx
The only chance to profile a WE is to install/use the Profiler of an EE or STD ...
In reply to Jörg A. Stryk:
Thank you Jörg,
I saw that page, but I was reading it as you need to install a full Enterprise or Standard Edition to have the Profiler.
Do you think that it would it be possible to download the STD with my MSDN subscription and just install the Profiler?
In reply to Erik P. Ernst:
I think it is possible to only install the "Client Tools" (e.g. Management Studio, Profiler) without a full Server from the STD/EE CD-ROMs ...
I know this was possible with SQL 2000, but I never saw this option in SQL 2005. Are you sure about this?
I have to admit that I'm not sure about this ... unfortunately I cannot check it out now ...
Just to finish this thread. I found a 3-rd party SQL Profiler tool which works for both Work Group edition and Express. And besides a few errors (found by Jörg) then it works ok.
