My company is deciding to connect 140 outlets to the main head office. Navision and cside at the outlet and connected to a sql database the the office. What is the best method connectivity for the same? We plan on going for an ISDN line. And what will be the case if there would be two pos macines at the outlets. How is data transfered to the head office
  • Hi
if you try to do 140 complete navision inatalations at your outlet and then di an overnigth update of the central server this is a hard thing to do !! I don't know a solution that realy works !

Why not using Citrix/Metaframe or Terminalserver on Client and conneting to centralserver by ISDN ?

There are a lot of topics, that discuss such a solution
  • Are yu going for GOPRO, otheriwse 140 POS terminals connecting to entral server, will have a serious problem in responce time.

  • yes we are going for GOPRO. Now the online solution(citrix) doesnt look so good as we have to think of the cost front. And the continuous stress on the server. So we probably have to look for he offline solution. but again tthe updating of data on daily basis. How to go about that ??? What solution does navision provide for this situation??
  • We are implementing something similar. 50 affiliates, every with 2-3 POS. I can give you a contact to the project manager, he can provide You with detailed informations and experiences. The solution is working on-line. In case of connection failure, we have prepared an off-line client with local MS Access db. When the connection recovers all entries are over MQ uploaded to the central NA server.

  • GoPro (the product) is pretty flexible with data transfer. It depends on how you choose to do the setup. "Replication" - the method that Navision Gopro uses: transfers data between diff Navision databases (tills-HO (Nav)) using code (type of virtual link) and not files. I can explain more if required. I would suggest an offline environment as well.

    I suggest you take a look at www.databackbone.com - a comprehensive
suite of Navision batch replication products. Also, online access is possible vi an automatio connector.
