C/Front cannot be used. There is no interface between COM and Java. ODBC could be used if you are on sql and can use sql drivers. This works fine as I've used it many moons years ago. If I remember correctly ODBC support in java is to forget, and If you are using other systems such as Unix you will have a lot of problems. To connect Java to NAV I would recommend using Web Services. Web Services in NAV it's with more or less difficulty can be exposed.
