You need to first create a service type of item. Create a PO and use the created item on PO lines. Rest functionality is same as PO with normal items.

For service items is there any more setup is required.

we've set up a PO and it's posting to the right dimensions but not the Main GL account. It keeps wanting to pick up an account off the posting profile. if this account is set to blank in the posting profile will it pick up the GL account off the PO?

Why not the posting group associated with the item? What account are you referencing here for the "service" item?
