Dynamics User Group

 I would like to direct post to a G/L account on a purchase invoice.  Direct Posting = Yes,  Gen. Prod Posting = blank on the G/L Account I want to post to.

I get an error that says "Gen. Prod Posting Group" must not be blank on my invoice line.   I know that if i put a Gen. Prod Posting group into the account, it will default in on the line... but I don't want to have to.  

 In a CRONUS database it is possilbe to post directly to a G/L account without the Gen. Prod Posting Group.

This is driven by the General Posting Type I believe, if it is set on the account you need the general posting groups, but if not you do not. Have a look if it is set on your account, although it pay be populated from the source document as well, I am not sure.

 Wow completely forgot that that is still there. It goes way back to an issue with VAT before the VAT posting groups were seperated form the Posting groups, and thus the posting groups were required for VAT reasons. I thought that in the US version they checked the VAT In use field and bypassed this if it was not a VAT DB.

David:  That sounds like the issue.  I am using a worldwide database, not the US version.  Where is the VAT in Use field in the US version?  Does it exist in the worldwide version?

This effects us in the US version 4.0.  if the g/l account card has a tax posting groups you will receive this error,

 when we do a general entry to one of these account we much fill in the General Posting type, to either Purchase, or Sale.

I believe you can set the General Posting Type on the account card and then it will populate it for you, so you won't ever see this error.

I think its in table 98. I don't think its on the form though.

 In the W1 version, General Ledger Setup doesn't have the VAT in Use field.  It looks like localization in codeunit 90 is pretty simple, if VAT in Use = false, then it doesn't run the testfield which cause the error.  I can bring over that portion of the modification.

 I'm still a little curious about what (if?) companies using the W1 version do if they aren't using VAT.... do they just setup the Posting Groups anyway?
