Convergence Diary: Introduction

Another Convergence is just around the corner … and yes, waldo is attending … again. And this time it seems I'm going to have some time to blog again, which I'm also planning to do. If you're not familiar with my blogs about conventions like Convergence, just dig into my tags (convergence, diary, …) and you'll see what you're up against Smile.

Why am I attending? For several reasons. It being a hobby wouldn't make up for the cost, would it? Smile. Well, I learn a lot of it. Not really in-depth stuff … but ideas. How to solve certain things, what is the roadmap, what to expect in some areas, what are good experienced partners to work with, … . I talk to people on the expo, on the pavilion .. I meet people in the community lounge .. and we talk about NAV (what else ;°)). On the other hand, I'm attending for commercial reasons (yes, I must admit .. but who isn't? Wink) . But this is a community blog, so I won't bother you too much with that part. Third … networking. Okay, you're right, that's just another form of a "commercial reason" but in my opinion, networking can be for business, but also for other stuff. May be you know, but together with other Belgian Dynamics-enthusiasts, I'm working on the "Belgian Dynamics Community" (www.DynamicsCOM.be), and knowing people from the product team or just other community-beasts is a must for that… .

This time, Convergence is in New Orleans. If you would know me … you'd know I'm a big jazz-lover (I even play it on my own piano - successful? - not really Wink). Now, from what I've been told, New Orleans is quite known for it's jazz. So, for me personally, I could have been dropped in a worse place Wink.

BUT … I must say … I'm going to Convergence with a mixed feeling. Lately - let's blame the crisis - things have been happening in NAV-land, things that makes me wonder. If you read my previous blogs about the convention, you might have read here or there that it is remarkable that there is a bigger focus on AX then NAV. I wonder why this is. Has it something to do with the fact that the AX product team is based in the US at headquarters? Furthermore, the bloody crisis has caused the resignation of some people I personally know. Not only at Microsoft, also some friends at other partners. They will be missed … Sad. Last year, at Orlando, I was the only NAV MVP around. This time again. Too bad, because the opportunities I got in Orlando last year was one of the reasons that made me want to go this year.

I'm feeling I'm nagging a little bit too much at the moment. And do I have a reason for that? I'm back in the plane, at an emergency exit (a lot of room for my legs), with white wine in my glass (not very good one, but anyway), listening to the jazz-channel, on the way to which might turn out to be one of my most favorite towns in the world Smile.

Stay tuned!

Spring has come. You can tell it. Okay, to be totally honest, nature and weather, at least over here
