Microsoft Dynamics NAV is officially compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (UPDATED)
Today, I got the message that Microsoft Dynamics NAV is officially compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 ! Here you can find the official announcement. So, this means exactly that Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 SP1 and Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 SP3 is compatible with SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008. Besides the fact that I always recommend to run the latest product update (expecially when you want to start using a brand new SQL Server version), I have the...
Directions US 2008: Final Thoughts
It's a tradition. After a convention I always try to write some "thoughts". Has it been useful for me, or for anyone? Good things to think about when you're deciding wether if it useful to go next year. The "thoughts" come a bit late this year. Last day at Directions I was sick. Serious sick. I had some kind of infection in my throat ... even more ... an ulcerous infection, which was, on top of that, bleeding. I don't think you can imagine (actually, I don't recommend...

Directions US 2008: Tips & Tricks in NAV 2009
Who doesn't want to follow that session? :-) I heard this session is going to be about the form transformation tool. Per Morgensen started by showing how to build a Role Center . Actually, first explaining what is the Role Center is all about. The cues that are actually "counts" of records in a certain view (how many open orders do I have? How many unpaid invoices do I have? ... Stuff like that). The "My Customes" or whatever stuff on the right. Outlook add-in. And so on....
Directions US 2008: BIO For Dynamics NAV
BI is hot today. BIO Analytics is a company that built BI tools for Dynamics NAV, called BIO for Dynamics NAV. Let's see what this ISV has to offer... . For BI solutions, you got different layers: Harvest information layer. This is actually the lowest level. It's usually a set of scripts that is "harvesting" the info. Create and Optimize Content. The non technical layer where you create your solutions. Next, the visualisation layer. Off course, previous layer has to give you the...

Directions US 2008: Upgrading Strategies
This is a session of my good friend and fellow MVP Daniel Rimmelzwaan (aka Denster on Mibuso). I'm particulary interested in this session also because of the fact he got some of the content from a session I did at Directions EMEA in Paris, so there is a little piece of "waldo" in it as well . It's Daniel's first session ever, and it seems it's going to be a pretty big one (I'm guessing there are about 100 people attending). Everyone is interested in upgrading, definitely...
Directions US 2008: Sharepoint and NAV for a developer
The past years you could feel Microsoft pushing people (and the product) to Sharepoint. Being a succesful partner is unthinkable when you don't have a plan ready for your Sharepoint projects ... or at least put NAV on Sharepoint in some way (reporting, apps, EP, ... ). I'm curious what Frank Dodrill from Tectura has to say about this... . It's going to be a session about Employee Portal. If I knew this before ... I hadn't gone to the session. I've seen enough about Employee Portal...
Directions US 2008: NAV CRM Secrets
This next session is one of the "Implementor" tracks. I'm not an implementor, and I don't want to pretend I would be capable to be an implementor. But let's just say, there wasn't really a more interesting concurrent topic, so ... . Besides, one of my colleagues is currently getting into the CRM side of NAV - may be I can gather some tips and tricks for her. Sandy Keys is presenting this session. I actually remember her from earlier this year, where I joined her in the "Community...

Directions US 2008: Simplifying Microsoft Dynamics NAV Migrations and Integrations with Scribe Insight (ISV Session)
That' s big title . If you've read my first post (introduction) ... one might have a feeling why I'm interested in this product . The part I usually don't like about ISV sessions is the generally long introductions of themselves, to see how good they are, what they achieved, ... Stuff like that. I'm not that interested in that. Having over 10000 customers, 800 partners ... doesn't guarantee the product's quality ... allthough I realize it does say something about the reliability...

Directions US 2008: SQL Reporting Services
This first session (at a killing starting time of 8am in the morning ) was presented by Tom Loyal and Tom Taylor ... It seemd it was going to be a "Tom-Thing" (bad joke, I know ... ). Reporting services is always an interesting topic ... It would make no sense to ram data into your system, while you wouldn't be able to get decent reporting out of it. Reporting Services is obviously an interesting way to do that. You still got the Report builder and the report designer. Let's make...
Directions US 2008: Introduction
I'm getting a little bit lazy, so it seems. I'm sitting here, five minutes before the very first session of Directions 2008 kicks off, writing my intro blog on Directions. Yeah, well. Besides the boring 10 hour flight and the killing Jet lag, there isn't very much to say about what i've been doing the past 24 hours... . Unless you want to hear something about my Atlanta Aquarium experience ... A bunch of fish in 8 million gallons of water. I guess not. This year's Directions ...

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Reports: Pagenumbers x/y
If you browse through the threads of MiBuSo or DynamicsUser.net , you come across posts where people try to find a possibility to show the page number and the total page number on each generated page of a report. Something like page 2/10, where 2 is the page number of a report with 10 pages. You know what I'm talking about. You also know what it involves to do this in NAV. There is just no decent way. There is a way around but let's face it. It's no good. If you don't know what I'm...
