Book Review: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Inside
2013-11-26 18:19
When Rene Gayer informed his fellow Dynamics NAV MVPs, me included, about his new book on NAV 2013, I directly volunteered to read it and provide him with feedback. Looking back I guess I did not fully understood the implication of the first lines in his May 28, 2013, mail to us: finally..uff our new Book NAV 2013 Inside will be available on 01.06.2013.. puuhh... NAV 2013 SEPA Credit Transfer and Direct Debit Updates - Netherlands - Arghhhhh
2013-7-2 15:47
Yesterday Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 SEPA Credit Transfer and Direct Debit Updates - Netherlands was released on PartnerSource. Something various partners and customers have been waiting for in The Netherlands. We too. But then for NAV 2009 R2. Instead of asking MS - and probably getting an unclear answer - I started my own investigation on the code to see if... Read More...

Let PRL Help You (How I Could Have Been So Stupid Not To)
2013-4-18 15:03
More than six months now that NAV 2013 was sent out to the world. Over six months of gettting ready to program and sell this new gem in the NAV cosmos. Or even longer for those at MS and those that particapted in the TAP program. And still many of us even did not get in the right position for it, trying to find time to somehow get in the slip stream of this all... Read More...
Providing Companies to Write Their Own Help Using OneNote
2013-4-11 16:47
Prior to NAV 5.0 end-user companies could add their own notes and instructions to any help topic by means of the Company Notes feature. I recall I was happily using it when writing the Help for the Dutch localization as part of the 4.0 project back in 2004. If my memory doesn't fail there were some security issues around that led to the deprecation of it... Read More...

NAV 2013 - Debugger
2013-4-6 19:46
Not a very creative title, right? Indeed I am not the first one to blog about this. And surely I am not going to redo the great job my fellow MVP Daniel Rimmelzwaam has done month ago. If you haven't read his post yet, you have to go out and read it. Even more: watch his video embedded in the same post. Very instructive on the various aspects of the awesome... Read More...

How-to: Deploy Your Help Project
2013-3-10 10:47
Typically an issue that keeps popping up every now and then on the NAV forums. You have managed to learn to create Help for your add-on and compile your Help project to get the .chm and .hh files. Now you're ready to test it from the UI and have copied both files to the relevant directories. At least that's what you think - or should I say hope? So you... Read More...
Call for Response on a Workshop NAV Online Help for CfMD
2013-3-2 11:43
Recently I have been contacted by a number of Dutch partners to help them out on the creation of Online Help for their add-on in the context of CfMD-ing the add-on. Having a longtime experience with Online Help and recently with CfMD I surely will pick up this request. But instead of doing this on a one-by-one basis, helping each partner individually, I have... ISV Insert Rights Available for NAV 2013 Licenses
2012-11-17 11:52
There has been quite some fuzz about the NAV 2013 partner licenses. Especially about the missing ISV Insert Rights. On one of my previous posts Gary Winter commented that this omission was "a bug in the licensing tool that does not allow partners to download a 2013 license with insert rights." Since then I have been checking VOICE frequently to see... Read More...

NAV2013 Beta to RTM - Some Striking Code Changes #8: IF-THEN-ELSE
2012-11-4 16:54
This last item in my NAV2013 Beta to RTM - Some Striking Code Changes series is addressing code changes NAV core team made to get IF-THEN-ELSE statements coding standards compliant. If you read the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Developer and IT Pro Documentation on IF-THEN-ELSE , and also on the use of parentheses , you'll notice that there are quite some conventions... NAV2013 Beta to RTM - Some Striking Code Changes #7: CASE Layout
2012-11-3 9:58
Although the coding standards are unambiguous about the layout of CASE statements , there has always been practiced an alternative flavor. Both within MS and outside. This is the standard syntax: CASE <Expression> OF <Value set 1>: <Statement 1>; <Value set 2>: <Statement 2>; ... ... <Value set n>: <Statement n>; END;... Read More...
NAV2013 Beta to RTM - Some Striking Code Changes #6: Redundant BEGIN ... END
2012-10-26 15:04
Read with me what the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Developer and IT Pro Documentation phrases on BEGIN/END, i.e. compound, statement: In some cases, the C/AL syntax only allows you to use a single statement. If however you have to execute more than one simple statement, the statements can be written as a compound statement by enclosing the statements between the... Read More...
NAV2013 Beta to RTM - Some Striking Code Changes #5: Calling Functions wo Parameters
2012-10-26 11:59
In my previous post in this series I addressed the first sync with coding standards, i.e. removal of redundant record references. This post is about a small one, but nevertheless a sync with coding standards. Have a look at COD400 (see screen shot). It's as simple as that. As the coding standards prescribe: Do not use parentheses in a function call if the... Read More...

On NAV 2013 Licenses - Part 2 | Add-on Ranges
2012-10-18 21:02
So in my chat with MS operations on insert rights for our add-on on NAV 2103 it became clear why we didn't have these insert rights (yet) in our newly configured NAV 2013 development/demo license. Gary Winter's comment however argues this and I truly hope he's right, because using the workaround Arend-Jan Kauffmann, switching between NAV 2009 and... Read More...
